The recent release of the 2002 model Ford Explorer marks the second generation Explorer to be sold in Australia. The latest Ford Explorer is an entirely new vehicle that features an all-new body, a longer wheelbase and independent front and rear suspension, and is available with either a V6 engine or a new V8 engine. There are two models in the new Ford Explorer line-up, the XLT and the Limited. The XLT is the entry level Explorer, although the extensive list of standard equipment might suggest otherwise. Powered by a 4.0 litre single overhead camshaft V6 engine that Ford claim has been improved from the previous model, the XLT is fitted standard with a five speed manual transmission or may be optioned with a five speed automatic gearbox
